I was scrolling through Twitter earlier and came across this post from the #Bucks that is a clip of a recent interview Giannis did. What he talked about was actually incredibly good advice for life.
He says that focusing on your past (past performances, but anything really) you are focusing on your ego. As he said, it's "I did this and this, wow I am so great" and then you lose track of the present and fail to perform well going forward. If we are too bogged down by the past we forget about the present and what we are capable of accomplishing in the days ahead of us.
Dwelling on the past can be a dangerous prospect no matter if it is past performances of a basketball game or a bad day you experienced recently. Thinking about ways things could have gone better in bad situations or applauding yourself for positive situations, you will rarely ever gain anything positive out of that (you could gain insight from reflection, but that has to be done in moderation!).
I recommend checking this interview out. I am going to try applying some of the concepts to my life moving forward as I found them very well thought through and intelligent. Giannis just gained another fan after this.
