Everything I thought I knew about steemit changed once I joined. I started reading posts and found out that I’m not in Kansas anymore. I realized how my preconceived notions of the platform were way off base and that I'm very fortunate to have been noticed for my first post. I know that many people fall through the cracks of the steemit couch, forever lost with the loose change and crushed Skittles. I can see how discouraging it must be to come to this platform with good content and expectations, only to have your hopes dashed with little to no payout for your hard work.
My first impression of steemit was that it’s a lottery system. You are very lucky if you will ever be found. But like a lottery, it does come around. (I’m proof) Every new person has the same chance to be seen. If you keep putting out original content, your name is in the hat with the rest of ours.
As I dug deeper, I found out how much the system is being gamed (whether for good or for bad reasons) I started to try and wrap my head around vote buying, flagging, bots, circle jerking and the selling of delegation. I quickly found out that it’s common to upvote your own post, which I thought was very strange until I heard the reasoning behind it. I’m still not sure if people are gaming the system or if the system was built to be gamed.
What I do know, is that I’m dumb as dirt compared to a lot of the people that make up this community. I’ve been trying to learn from them and I am happy to be part of the future of social media. Every new technology has issues to work out and I feel charmed that I’m here in the beta stage so I can grow with the platform.
I believe in the future of cryptocurrency and think that steemit is a worthwhile endeavor, regardless of the money that you are making here right now. One dollar worth of steem today may be worth one thousand dollars in the future.
I think people need to stop worrying about the money so much and start concentrating on the content/social media side. The money will come if you make REAL connections and produce good content. My zombie post was probably a one hit wonder and I’ll be back to my Thirty-Three cent reality from now on. You know what? I really don’t care. I’m gonna do what I do and keep learning along the way.
