Sound & Noise pollution

Noise pollution, also known as environmental noise or sound pollution, is the propagation of noise with harmful impact on the activity of human or animal life. The source of outdoor noise worldwide is mainly caused by machines, transport and transportation systems. Poor urban planning may give rise to noise pollution, side-by-side industrial and residential buildings can result in noise pollution in the residential areas.

This type of pollution is so omnipresent in today’s society that we often fail to even notice it anymore:

1. street traffic sounds from cars, buses, pedestrians, ambulances etc.
2. construction sounds like drilling or other heavy machinery in operation
3. airports, with constant elevated sounds from air traffic, i.e. planes taking off or landing
4. workplace sounds, often common in open-space offices
5. constant loud music in or near commercial venues
6. industrial sounds like fans, generators, compressor, mills
7. train stations traffic
8. events involving fireworks, firecrackers, loudspeakers etc.
