Cryptocurrencies are extremely profitable because institutions have figured out they can abuse marketcaps. Marketcaps only have value when they are limited by liabilities or assets, otherwise they are a mirage. No other market has orderbooks as thin as cryptocurrency, where a 10 BTC price manipulation can move the marketcap up $10-20mil USD. This means the marketcap of cryptocurrencies could even hit 1 Trillion USD.
