THE UNIQUENESS OF HOVERFLIES // Discovering the Intricate Details of a Hoverfly Through My Macro Lens
Good night to all my beloved hive friends 鈾ワ笍
Let me introduce you to a hoverfly belonging to the family Syrphidae. The tropical almond tree in front of my house has now started to bloom, attracting many insects such as flies, bees, and butterflies. This is a sight I can enjoy every day, and sometimes it also sparks my curiosity about these insects.
In a single day, I managed to photograph several insects, including hoverflies, damselflies, and butterflies. However, in this post, I would like to share some photographs of a hoverfly, captured with quite satisfying results.
At first glance, hoverflies look very similar to bees, especially because of their color patterns, which combine shades of brown, yellowish-orange, and black, as well as the dark transverse stripes decorating the upper part of their backs.
Hoverflies are larger than most other flies, and we can also identify them quite easily because of their very unique flying style. From the several photographs I have shared, we can clearly observe every detail of their body structure, starting with the relatively large head, which is equipped with a pair of very prominent compound eyes. These eyes are yellowish-green in color and adorned with intricate dotted patterns, making them look truly extraordinary and artistic.
Meanwhile, its thorax and abdomen look similar to those of most ordinary flies. However, if we observe it more closely, we can see that this fly is actually covered in tiny hairs.
According to the information I have gathered, although these flies often spend their time on trees or flowers, we are still advised not to touch or handle them directly, as they may carry various types of harmful bacteria.
One of their unique characteristics is their appearance, which closely resembles that of bees. However, these insects are completely harmless to humans because they do not have a stinging apparatus.
And now, let us take a very close look at this hoverfly. This is one of the most challenging and complicated aspects of macro photography. Hoverflies are highly active insects and extremely sensitive to even the slightest movements. Photographing them from such a close distance is quite difficult because even the smallest mistake can cause them to fly away.
Of course, hoverflies are small insects with quite interesting physical characteristics to observe from a close distance. Throughout this macro photography session, I kept trying to capture this hoverfly from various different angles, allowing us to see and explore different perspectives that reveal its physical characteristics in greater detail.
To be honest, I am very satisfied with the results I achieved, and this is what makes me enjoy the world of macro photography even more.
