Cue trumpets and choirs! Cue tears and lamentations! Cue anger and drama! Cue keyboard venting and whiskey! It's the end of the Hive World!
Blinking back tears and the desire to drink the whole bottle, Hiveians are reeling with the news that from this weekend, the Blockchain is no more.
We write our last posts in the hope that the big curators will dish out the last fishfood for the minnows, the gourmet treats for their fellow whales. We hug our global friends virtually and some we wish good riddance. We search for other social media blockchains that might, just might, offer a millionith of what Hive offers. And we hope like hell that last powerdown comes in time for it to be sent to the exchanges and sold so we can pay our bills, or at least get something for our hard work here.
But as news spreads about the blockchain's demise, we're probably realising that our HIVE is now worth diddly squat. Sigh. If only Elon Musk hadn't spread those rumours on Twitter. I was about to buy a Tesla with my HBD.
Having written every day for the last six months and in four years on HIVE written 1,320 posts at the time of writing this one, (you can check your own basic stats via Hive Buzz and 31,317 comments, none of them which read 'nice post, sir' or 'I like your post, please upvote me', or 'wow I love your photos' when they are clearly referenced Unsplash images, I'm in shock.
What will I do with my days? How will I express myself with the written word in ways I can't in real life? How will I keep in touch with the people I've grown to love here? How will I be inspired from all the incredible curators here? Be moved to tears, to laughter, to joy?
What will I do without @galenkp's question of the week for the Weekend Engagement community where he pitches such tasks as 'create a selfie out of fruit and vegetables' where all I can come up with is a picture of me looking hot from ten years ago with giant squash as boobs?
But I have to write a last post. What on earth to write? What would do it justice?
In my sorrow, I don't have much. All I have is this:
It's not even original. But as I've never plagiarised anything on Hive to my knowledge, I best attribute this saying to comic genius Douglas Adams who died off a heart attack too young and left us with 'A Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy' and this obscure paragraph where dolphins exit Earth for good.
“The last ever dolphin message was misinterpreted as a surprisingly sophisticated attempt to do a double-backwards-somersault through a hoop whilst whistling the 'Star Spangled Banner', but in fact the message was this: So long and thanks for all the fish.” ― Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

So whilst I'm guilty of double backwards somersaulting through this post, what I mean to say is, for my last post, thankyou. Not for the fish, but for what the fish symbolise. Also, apt, right, because I'm a dolphin?
