Very broody, dark day out there - it's humid a.f and they've been burning off in the Otways Forest to clear undergrowth against fire risks. Everyone's struggling to breath. I've got a sore shoulder and am a bit sooky, so the best thing to do was get out in nature. I have been on the hunt for saffron milk cap mushrooms, which I know grow in pine forests.

We do have pine plantations near us, timber plantations. There's signs everywhere saying entry is forbidden but I am not one for laws, hey @owasco. Besides, I found what I was looking for on the edge of the plantation, so could always argue I'd gone for a pee...

So I THINK these are saffron milk caps. Don't worry I'm not tasting them til I am 100 percent sure. There are plenty of sites that give you an idea of what they look like, such as this one. The ones I found are a bit old, but it's fun trying to identify them and doing so pulls me out of my head and into the world. It's part of the reason I like to forage. Spending time out in nature stops me going too bananas.

Funnily enough, when I was looking for identification pages of saffon milk caps I found friend @ligayagardener's external blog here. I'm hoping he can confirm these are or aren't before I even think about doing anything with them. Given they are fairly old I might just dehydrate them as a mushroom seasoning.

I swear everytime I'm near a pine forest this song immediately pops into my head. I love this version so much, so I don't mind so much.
