Some people have whole wings for their shoes. Some people have a shopping bag. Whilst I'd love a big walk in robe, I'm happy with what we have ended up with, with the help of IKEA genius.
I was chatting to someone as we were waiting for the IKEA truck to unload and our pick up point, who was also getting wardrobes for her kids. Her husband was an architect and gates IKEA. Neither of us could understand why, because honestly it's a pretty affordable solution if you can't afford architectural bespoke robes and you don't want a stick propped up on bricks.
I love the birch handles - the room is a little dark so the lighter wood fits. We have the same ones in kitchen for thematic jazz.
As the opening was already there we figured just having the middle frames and drawers would be fine. They key was saving money where we could so we could make it up elsewhere like my warm brushed nickel bathroom tapware from Yabby and my ceramic artisan tiles for the kitchen. Luckily both were purchased for 20 percent off in the EOFY sales. I'm so looking forward to this but of bling!!!
Jamie was going to hang one long tail at the top but I insisted on the extra effort for neat double hanging - his own one side, hers on the other. He has the right section for drawers and a shelves for tee shirts amd I have ther other.
The great thing is we have actually created MORE STORAGE space than before. That's the idea - to get a tiny house and make all the systems work beautifully so that there more storage and illusion of space.
We also managed to get the blankets and sheets from under the bed where they were collecting dust bunnies and into soft boxes on shelves. I also had an opportunity to sort through what I didn't wear or want and take them to the charity shop or give them a wash if they'd been festering.
Say what you like about IKEA but it's solved sooo many issues for us.
Yes, we need sliding doors, but this is neat and pretty enough to live with for now.
If we did have time and money and energy we would have extended upwards to utilise the space there above the existing space under the roof but poor Jamie is so fed up with DIY. I get it. But at least I drove the whip well enough to get some better, cleverer, neater storage.
Now, does anyone know the number of a good tiler?
Mine is on the couch watching tank videos.
With Love,
