The Intruder

Connie rolled and stretched on her bed without hearing the sound.
On waking up, she noticed that there was complete darkness.
She began to wonder what must have happened.
There had been power before she fell asleep,
and she always left her small table lamp on, to avoid utter darkness.
As she stretched even further to shake away her sleep
She figured it must have rained heavily while she was asleep.
And that must have resulted in power disruption.
She tried to coordinate her senses, then she heard the sound.
The sound originated from the living room down stairs.
Her husband, Mike, was away on a trip; she was alone.
Hence, she wondered the source of the sound.
She heard the sound again, and knew for certain what it meant.
There was an intruder in the house.
The power outage made things worse; as everywhere was dark.
How she missed her husband, Mike, this very instant, she thought.
As she frantically groped around for her phone to call for help,
she heard her neighbour's voice and knock at the entrance door downstairs.
The knock must have startled the intruder,
who made a ruckus downstairs while dashing out of the house.
