I'm still on a bit of a strange mood... Invested in new camera, no motivation to sort myself a shoot out.. wtf is that all about?
However, I did book myself on a couple of colour based shoots, which seems stupid me talking about in the Black and White group but hey ho... Every shoot I do I also do a B&W conversion of (nearly) every shot.. And although many from this shoot don't really show the effects of the gels. They still make nice portraits.
So after the manicness that was Fran, last weekend we had the calmness of Evie and a totally different way of lighting.
I use gels a fair bit but not as a main light... reason - I've always made a dogs dinner of it if I'm being honest... I've been on photography workshops that's touched on gel work previously, but it didn't sink in my head and stay, so I booked myself on this workshop to try and get it in there again..
I think its in there and I'm a far better photographer now than I was waaaay back on the other course..
We used a few different colour setups, the usual red and blue, the orange and reds amongst others, even a 3 colour setup for a '3d' effect... again, you'll not see these on this post, so keep your eyes out for another post with the colour stuff on.
One thing in the studio was a rather excellent backdrop... One that I will be emulating was this..
A quite simple backdrop giving some great futuristic looks...
2 boards, painted black... the white bits are cutouts from the boards... covered in tracing paper so soften the light.. its lit from the back and again, you can gel the lights to give them different colours, then a main light for the subject in front...
The wrap around light gives a nice effect on the models body and fluffy coat..
