the analogue sky is blue today
white storks turn on the breeze
leaves of the poplars lining the yard
rattle and hiss in the afternoon lull

a smartphone sets out a beat
global pop with an indistinct lyric
language undiscernable
generic and meaningless

distant sirens on the mainroad
an escort of police motorcycles
the sentries on the treetops
not turning their heads

and life persists; do you remember me
the suck of the waves on the pebble strand?
high clouds in the east: blowing away
into the unknown of tomorrow
