Good day to everyone! In this post I show you a self-portrait made with graphite pencil and photographs of the drawing process.
I am in a optional class this semester, it is called 'Free Drawing Workshop', and this has been one of the assigned tasks, posing in front of a mirror and making a portrait of ourselves.
The main "trick" in the drawing is to maintain a coherent relationship between the measurements of the different elements, which translates into understanding the proportions and knowing how to measure with the eye and with the pencil.
The first lines I made are soft strokes with a pencil (H), mark a guide grid starting from an axis of symmetry that separates the left and right halves of the face, then some horizontal lines where I compare the measurements and calculate the locations of the ears , the mouth, the eyes, the beginning and the end of the hair, beginning and end of the beard; also vertical guides that define the width of the face, the separation of the eyes, the width of the nose and mouth, and the end of the ears.
Once you have the proportions follows a stage where you have to look for forms in the details, as a synthesis of the textures and folds translated in pencil strokes; In this way, the main features that define the face appear. For example the curves of the eyebrows, the top of the ears, the shape and shape of the lips and eyes, as well as the contours and strength of those lines.
Finally identify the light and the way it reaches the object; thus, the volumes will stand out, giving depth to the portrait.
I am a beginner in drawing, but I know that with practice the results will be better and better. I have rarely portrayed myself, perhaps this was the second time, however, I think I managed to highlight some features of my face and, I could say, I do look a bit like the drawing, and with that I am satisfied.
I have shared some of the essential things that I have learned in my class; I also want to share a portrait of me that a friend made while we had a beer, because of its simplicity, it's my favorite.
