I strongly recommend you to watch the series The Boys, I'm not so fanatic to read the comics, but the way the story was built is worth mentioning.

The Boys is a series based on the comics of the same name, created by Garth Ennins and Darick Robertson, and premiered on June 26, 2019 on Amazon Prime Video.

Currently, the comic is published in Dynamite. Previously published in DC Comics, but was canceled for its high level of black humor.

What is it about

The series itself deals with the subject that I like to talk about most, "the heroes". It's a world where heroes or superheroes are "capitalists", words expressed by my father. In short, they charge for their services and are managed by a big company.

These superheroes are like celebrities. They possess great prestige and power over humanity, as well as their dark facets, really macabre things that we see through the chapters. They unfold all the mess that is being made. There are also people who have been affected by the super, called "collateral damage. That's where the story begins with Hughie, who has lost his girlfriend to a super. This generates that he joins a cause that tries to prove that heroes are not what they appear to be. That's where the famous Butcher appears, one of the most relevant characters in the plot.
.

Another part of the story that ends up forming a network, is that of Starlight, she is a super who just joined the Seven; an elite group of the elite in the world of the series. Through her we will be able to witness the marketing and handling of masses that make the super, almost all his intimate life is being transformed to favor his popularity.

Messages from the series

This series as such sends many messages through its different characters. Between the arch that is developed between Hughie, Starlight, the Patriot or Butcher. What the story faithfully reflects is what the most realistic version of the superstars would be like if they existed. There were no altruistic heroes who do everything for humanity. Each of them would have a longing to be free and to do as they please with such power, they would seek to have that freedom at any cost.

Opinion as writer

I liked that realistic way of approaching the world super. I think I contribute ideas to create antagonistic stories, that is, to take the opposite of what is always created. It reflects that creative spirit of forming a unique formula through a repetitive recipe. Following a pattern that makes a difference. It's something writers should keep in mind. There can be thousands of similar stories with the same tone, theme and character stereotypes. But one must be creative enough to mold it to one's liking.
