Greetings, everyone.

No one has done anything foolish for me, dear sacra97@sacra97. I'm quite clear on that. However, this week gives me the opportunity to share this memory.
All the foolish things I've done in my life have been my own doing, and I take responsibility for them. But there's one I remember with particular clarity, perhaps because it was the first time I acted driven by something I couldn't identify at the time, and which I later learned was called desire, attraction, or simply the urge to get the attention of someone who wasn't looking at me.

Or, better said: my first love.

I was ten years old. My English teacher's name was Susana. She was young, in her early twenties, with that British accent that seemed to me the most sophisticated thing in the world. And I, in my childish naiveté, decided I had to win her over.

For an entire school year, I had no other obsession. I brought her sweets, I learned the dialogues from the book with a dedication I've never put into anything since, I stared at her intently when she explained, convinced she would understand.

The absurd thing is that there were girls my age in class who actually noticed me. One, Marta, would pass me notes. Another, Laura, wanted to sit next to me. And I completely ignored them. I was too busy trying to win over a woman twice my age who, looking back now, was probably counting down the days until class was over so she could get out of there.

I didn't learn my lesson then. I continued making a fool of myself for months. And Susan, professional as ever, didn't even flinch. She treated me with the same kindness she showed everyone. And I interpreted that kindness as a sign. That was my first big blunder, the first of a long series. But it was also my first unrequited love story. And as a writer, I've drawn a lot of material from that. So maybe it wasn't such a blunder after all.

Saludos, estimadas.
