Greetings, everyone.
I intentionally chose this title to start with, because being a father-in-law is, in reality, a high-risk job, and it comes at a price: your peace of mind.
Being a father-in-law isn't a problem in itself. The problem arises when you're a father-in-law and your daughter-in-law is wonderful, but your son is a lost cause
That's precisely my situation. My son is wonderful. Every father would say that, I know. In my case, it's the truth. I am very proud of everything my son has achieved in life, both in Cuba and in Spain.
Ah, but his adolescence in Cuba was anything but peaceful. My son is an attractive young man, and he has a gift for gab; he dances very well, and, much to my dismay, many women love that.
He wasn't one to have several women at once; we never taught him that. But he didn't deny them his attention either.
When I thought one of them was going to win him over, when I thought I was finally going to have my daughter-in-law, well, I was wrong.
He had several relationships with wonderful girls who loved my wife and me, but he was always out of touch with reality. He was always doing something crazy, like going away for a weekend to play soccer in another province, or to an electronic music festival, or something, but always without his girlfriend.
And that's when I faced the dilemma of whether to tell her or protect my son. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer in these situations. Either way, he'd always end up worse off.
Therefore, I decided to be as uninvolved in his relationships as possible. I decided to stay as far away as possible and give him complete independence.
In the end, that was just a teenage phase. He's matured now and settled down with a wonderful girl. He's lucky to find such great girls. He chooses them well.
That's the good thing about the passage of time: everything passes.

Saludos, estimados.
De cualquier manera, siempre terminar铆a mal parado.
