If you know the guy is going to punch you, you are ready for that. But if you are not sure what he is going to do, you are in a stage where you might find it difficult to predict. In a fighting competition, you know for sure that your opponent is going to attack you.
There are some moves that might confuse you. You think something and it turns out something else. For example, you have an argument or a guy is aggressive, later, he moves and turns around. You think it is over. So you are relaxed and physiologically your mind is out of there.
But suddenly the attacker turns back and throws a punch. This is not expected, you think it is over, but it is not. You can see situations like this. In another situation, the attacker draws his knife, so he might attack you with his knife. Later, he puts his knife in his pocket. And you think this is over. Suddenly the attacker punches you.
What I am writing here, I am not making it up. This is what happens in life. You might witness this. So why does the attacker do this?
First of all, the attacker wants to confuse you, and you might fall into his trap. You physiologically disengage and he takes advantage of the moment to punch you. The second reason would be, the attacker just checks out whether there is any witness or not. He makes sure that no one is around there watching this and then attacks you.
So next time when you see the guy moves and looks back, don't think it is over. You can get a surprise attack. See how the attacker stands and moves his shoulders. You will get an indication of what he is about to do.
