Ouch, you got hit with spear-phishing. I've seen even the smartest, most security conscious people get fooled. The only way to avoid it is to just avoid the Internet altogether at this point. The important thing is you used a different password than your other accounts. Losing $1000 is a lot, but losing access to other account could be far more devastating.
