SPS Governance Proposal

(Sps.dao Article Quote)

A proposal is being put forth to a vote of all staked SPS token holders to adjust the amount of reward shares awarded in ranked battles based on the level of cards used by the winning player in the battle. The goal of this change is to encourage players to own and/or rent higher level cards and encourage combining cards by reducing the amount of reward shares earned by cards used in battles that are below the intended levels for each league. Initially the concept of collection power was introduced in an attempt to ensure that players would need the appropriate level cards in order to participate in higher leagues; however, that system was relatively easy to work around and we are still seeing many players that are able to earn full rewards in higher leagues using low level cards. With the recent changes to the ranked reward system, we now have the tools to better achieve this goal by limiting rewards based on the cards actually used in the battles rather than cards simply sitting in players' collections. Quote From Splinterlands Founder

(Yabapmatt thoughts on SPS Governance Proposal)

It's important to always start by clearly identifying and defining the problem that we are aiming to address with any change to the system. The problem in this case which we have identified, along with many members of the community, is that there is not enough incentive to combine or otherwise obtain cards above level 1 in the game. I feel that it is quite obvious from a quick glance at the system. The most glaring indicator is the rental market, where over 85% of all cards actively being rented are level 1 and over 95% of all cards listed for rent are level 1. This is fine on the regular market, where it gives more flexibility to buyers to purchase multiple level 1 cards and combine to the level they need, but the rental market shows what types of cards players are actually using in battle. RentMoney's Proposal Thoughts

Anytime there are potential reward changes it will be a hot topic (as it should be). No-one likes their rewards being nixed but more important than short term reward gains is long term Splinterlands health. What is it worth to players and investors to earn slightly more now only to watch as our assets get devalued by Level One reward farmers. The Splinterlands game is very unique in its overall game mechanics. When I say that I don't just mean how the game itself is played but all the many ways in which a player or investor of the game can earn. Each of those ways linked to the others. We all spend time, money and use strategies to earn and have fun with this game. What we don't want is (or at least shouldn't want) is armies of level one bot farmers milking the system which is currently very easy to do. I fully support these new reward changes.

The table above shows the card levels in which have the potential to earn max amount at each desired league. If the above SPS Governance proposal were to pass cards that are leveled below what the table indicates for each league will see reduced rewards. For example If you are in Diamond League but are using Level 3 (Common), Level 2 (Rare), Level 2 (Epic) and Level 1 (Legendary) cards the rewards you win won't be as high as someone who uses Level 8 (Common), Level 6 (Rare), Level 5 (Epic), Level 3 (Legendary) within Diamond League Battles. This means that skill and luck (who you are matched with) can still take you far (as it should) in league play as low level cards are not being excluded from any higher league play. For me (Ideally) aside from a very poorly chosen team; a team that has cards at Level 3/2/2/1 shouldn't be strong enough to continuously beat a team filled with 8/6/5/3 leveled cards. Personally I think the real issue here is that low level cards can at times be competitive with near max level cards. I don't think that ever should of been the case. A team of level one cards should never be good enough to touch the high gold leagues let alone sneak into diamond. I know some of you read that last line and screamed what about skill. To that I say, no matter how skillful someone is with a butter knife (level one cards) you shouldn't be able to beat someone in combat that has a gun (Max Cards).
