Back to the nine to five grind
Life has a funny way of taking us down these twists and turns. I sometimes like to say that life is easy, its the people around us that can make it hard. The manipulates, cheaters and flat out liars. Surround yourself with 5 excuse makers and you will likely be the 6th excuse maker. Surround yourself with 5 good doers and you'll be the 6th good doer. I'm not sure how that relates to my going back to school thoughts but I kinda wing these posts. No prep-work for post creation just my raw thoughts as they come. As I ponder my next move in life its looking like I am going to get back to the 9-5 grind. I did pretty decently with living a no boss, all time is my time lifestyle for a decent chunk of time. Cashing out a few investments here n there and living from savings. However its now time to rebuild and re-establish a traditional cashflow. Most my job experience was hard labor work in the fishing industry which paid well but I won't be going back to doing that. While I am certainly capable of doing so I need to think of my future much older self. It's time to start thinking of the downside of life. Which very quickly brought me to the thought that I might go to college. I have already requested my academic profile from the appropriate places. In addition I took some further steps beyond that. College is not the only avenue I am prepping but I like to have everything prepared and ready to go if I decide to follow through. This lead me to looking into career choices.

Security
One doesn't need to go to college for this. There is different avenues one can take to land a Security job. For the entry level security officer a small course is all that is needed. There is also many types of security jobs. I have an interest in just about all of them. From being in a physical location, to being the night-walker in a closed building to online security (all jobs with little oversight). It all has an interest to me. I have done some online security in the past as a freelancer. It was a learning experience and enjoyable. Very redundant work and requires sitting in front of a computer screen. When researching security courses online I even considered law enforcement degrees. Looks like I can get a law enforcement degree in two years, which seems like a blink of an eye to me. Two years, really, that is all it takes to have a degree to wear a badge? I think this should be extended. I have ruled this out as ultimately I decided that having a chain of command over me is something I want to avoid. Which will be hard to do when entering a new work force. Which brought me to researching jobs where there is high independence and little chain of command.

Environmental Technician
The job title above goes by multiple names but it seems as being an Environmental Technician provides tons of freedom and limited chain of command. Allot of the work is being by oneself or being with a co-worker traveling in a designated 4X4 to sites where we collect samples of the environment. It also seems as its a highly in-demand career. An Environmental Technician is the "boots on the ground" investigator who goes out into the field to collect soil, water, and wildlife data to make sure companies are protecting nature and following the law. The job activities would include scooping water from rivers, drilling core soil samples, and collecting air quality readings near active industrial zones, using drones and modern technology to map out our testing areas and more. Depending on the job; lots of driving and hiking to these areas might be the bulk of some days.
Other potentials is getting hired by an on-going company doing busy construction or prep where I would have next to or potentially no on-site "boss" as Environmental Technicians are hired directly by the site owner and their findings can impact if a project is shut down or not. Pay wise it's not overly appealing. I can essentially or potentially go get a job right now that pays the same as an entry level Environmental Technician gets paid. However the ceiling pay for more experience technicians does look appealing when factoring the freedom level that comes with such a career choice. Freedom over all else so this is the leading choice for me right now. I'll continue to research as another avenue might popup that is just as appealing. For now its a waiting game. I made the inquiries, requested my transcripts from previous schooling and courses to see what might still be valid and what might need brushing up on. No other steps other than research and pillow talk can be done currently. That's it for this post. Thanks for visiting us and we hope to see you at our next one.
