It was actually one of happiest days in the lives of we, the SS3 set of students in NINLAN Demonstration Secondary School, when the invitation indicating that we have been invited for an excursion to the one most popular Restaurant in Nigeria as a whole - Crunchies.
It was on a Wednesday. When the news was been told, we were sad because they said they only need 10 students but we were a way 10X the number that was expected. So, I and a classmate of mine, Miracle, went to meet the teacher that informed us to let her know that more people indicated interest in going for the excursion. After much pleading we were favored but we all that wished to go had to pay a thousand naira each in order to fuel the School coaster bus that would take us there. Actually that wasn’t an issue at all.
On the following Saturday morning, 40 students who strongly indicated interest all assembled at the school compound in readiness to leave for the excursion. We left and got to the place that morning and they really welcomed us well there too. There were two staffs that the management of the place dedicated to us – Mike and John. They were so nice and entertaining. They gave us seats and tables to our satisfaction. Even before we got there, they always got in contact with the three teachers who went with us go know where we are and how they can help us if we were in need of any help at all.
They started telling us things concerning the creation of the restaurant and also how it started spreading round the country. They told us that the one we were in, that is, the one we went to, is the very first in the country, and that is why it has the name, Crunchies 001. It was the mother of all the other branches that they have both in Abia were it was situated and in Nigeria as a whole. I never heard of that and it was a huge something for me actually. They also went on to take us through some questions regarding how to bake and make cakes and breads. Anyone who answered corrected was given a pack of Popcorn. I didn’t get the opportunity to answer questions, so I didn’t any pack of Popcorn from them.
They played for us a documentary regarding how the produce their cakes and breads and we saw them and asked them a lot of questions too in places where we didn’t understand fully. The teachers that came with us asked them if we can go inside to see for ourselves how they are made, but they declined saying that it was weekend and that they do not allow guests inside but that if we should come again during week days then certainly, they would take us in.
After the documentary, they allowed us to walk around and buy things we wanted to buy as well. We are students but we also have some little money which we can use to buy things too from the excursion which we went. So we, those that wished to buy things, went out to get little things. I myself had some HBD, with me and knowing fully well that the restaurant accepts HBD, I went to get things, but on getting to the cashier, they told me that they do not know what I was talking about. I felt disappointed, but I immediately called the local guid - @fokusnow - who immediately answered and told me that the person who was trained there regarding the SpendHBD transaction had been sacked and is no longer working there.
So, I transferred the HBD for him immediately and he sent me the money in Naira immediately too. he really saved me that day. With that I paid for the things I ordered. I ordered two plates of Fried rice and chicken but with a takeaway because I didn’t plan to eat there. After which, I bought 2 meat pies and then a Sharwama too. I gave the teachers the meant pies and then took the rest for myself and my classmates.
The management gave us cake and we ate and then we took pictures within the premises and then we bed them goodbye and left. We got back safely and went to our various homes safely too. we the class of 2024/2025 NDSS SS3 Set took that day as a day to take ourselves out and to enjoy ourselves, and the memories we created that day would never be erased from our memory.
I wish we will attend many other excursions such as this in order to create more memories. It was really a wonderful day indeed.
