Hello, greetings to all the Hive-Cuba community. It is my first time in the group and I want to thank in advance to my colleagues Eddy, Jussel and Tony for being promoters of this fabulous virtual platform, for their patience and unconditional support.

In 2013, I moved to Havana with my mother and began my working life at the Institute of Geology and Paleontology-Geological Service of Cuba (IGP-SGC) as a specialist petrographer consisting in the study under the microscope of rocks and minerals where their mineralogical composition, textures and conditions of formation are determined; relevant information to know and understand the phenomena and geological evolution of the Earth, as well as in the study of mineral deposits.

In 2015, as part of a plan of 100 scholarships granted by the Russian government for Latin America, I and other co-workers were selected to pursue master's studies in Moscow. My stay in the Russian Federal Republic for three years from 2015-2018 was a great experience in every way. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to share some of them.

I remember that the first thing that impressed me as it has happened to many who have been in countries where it snows, is to see snow for the first time and understand why many writers, musicians and poets take it as a reference when talking about purity and also the coldness of the soul. The other interesting thing, is how those winter days so radiant that invite to go out and walk, constitute the coldest ones being able to reach temperatures as low as -30oC or more; I remember that the lowest temperature I have experienced in my life was -28oC in January 2017 in the evening hours, that day I had to put money to the student card (in Russian: studientcheski bilét) to transport me in the city, but more than that I wanted to experience what it was to feel such a cold like that. When I took off my gloves for a few seconds to pay cash at the ticket office before going down to the Yugozapádnaya Metro station, my hands got so stiff that I couldn't move them or articulate my fingers, which scared me a lot because I thought I had frozen; immediately, I rushed down the stairs that led me to the Metro platform and I had to stay there for an average of 20 minutes rubbing my hands and breathing my warm breath to get the blood back to run through my hands and avoid a possible freezing; at the same time it was funny because the people from there were staring at me surprised as if saying this almost froze, you do not know how is the climate of this country? But, well, lesson learned not to underestimate ''General Winter'' as they call him.

The Russian character and language was another shock. Russians, as European people generally are, have a strong character and I remember that once a security guard (in russian: Ajrana) gave me a tremendous shock for the little meat that allows you access to the hostel and then I saw how she was laughing and talking to me kindly, that was very strange to me, that change of mood so sudden and without an apparent cause, but that is part of the character of this people and you must learn to deal with it. They don't make friendships in a short time as we do here in Latin America, on the contrary, they told me that we Latinos are too sociable and that they rather give time to really get to know people and I think they are right; but, yes, when they appreciate you become more than a friend, a very dear relative for them.

The Russian language is complex, but you learn it as you go along, as it happens with the rest of the languages. The easiest thing is the alphabet where many of the letters are similar to the ones we use, only 4 consonants are conflicting when it comes to pronouncing them since, for us they all sound the same as the letter (Ch), but you must be careful because very subtle differences in pronunciation change the idea of the message you want to communicate. At the beginning, certain words sound strange to you, such as: patóm (after), kulón (pending), zakón koulona (Coulomb's Law), picha (food), etc., and the other thing is that the Russian language works by declension system consisting in that you must modify the ending of the word depending on what you want to express here, for example, to cite some grammatical rule when you want to indicate that an object belongs to a person of the male gender, the rule states that if your name ends in a consonant you must add a letter (A) at the end; in such a way, if your name is Daniel or Juan to cite examples, at some point you will be referred to as Daniela or Juana respectively.

In 2018, I had the opportunity to visit the Russian city of Sochi, located on the shores of the Black Sea very close to the border with Georgia. I felt identified with this city because of its subtropical climate and the sea. There, something curious that I observed when I was on the beach is that in the middle of the day and at 30ºC, people were crowded on the sand and not a soul in the water; that caught my attention and when I asked one of the lifeguards he told me that, despite the heat, the water temperature was at 11ºC. But, I counted up to a thousand and I thought, since I am here, I have to dive into its waters and so I did, I only lasted a minute, ipso facto, I came out like a dog that knocked down the water.

I came out like a dog that knocked over the pot and some Russians who were on the shore gave me a thumbs up as a sign that I had been brave. The adjective "black" fits well because its waters have a truly dark tonality that generates a certain sensation of mystery in them. Anyway, there were many anecdotes from Russia, if I started to tell them all I would have to make a book hahaha.

This event occurred in the year 2020 in the region of Eastern Cuba, north of the mountain range of the Gran Piedra near a small town in Santiago called Ramón de Las Yaguas. It is indescribable the sensation of knowing that you have in your hands a rock from another world that has traveled hundreds of thousands of kilometers and perhaps in the order of light-years and to know that in general, it presents the same minerals that appear on Earth with the exception of a few rare ones. Their study is important because they allow us to know part of the history of our solar system.

Hobbies
