¡Hola a todos! Me siento realmente complacida de unirme a este ecosistema tan interesante y completo. Soy Reyra, una joven cubana de 21 años, con muchas ganas de mostrarle al mundo su arte.
Desde pequeña mi inclinacion hacia lo artístico fue notable, el baile, el canto y la música, el dibujo, las manualidades... todo era maravillosamente encantador a mis ojos. Según las historias de los mayores, siempre era vista sobre todo cantando y dibujando. Recuerdo que a los siete años mi mejor amiga Dani y yo hicimos una presentación en un teatro rebosado de personas, y tengo una vaga imagen en mi cabeza de cuando hicimos que el público se pusiera en pie. El sentimiento de satisfacción que experimenté fue tanto, que decidí dedicar mi vida a la música.
Hello everyone! I’m really delighted to be joining this fascinating and vibrant community. I’m Reyra, a 21-year-old Cuban woman, and I’m eager to show the world my art.
From a young age, my artistic inclinations were clear: dancing, singing and music, drawing, crafts… everything was utterly enchanting to me. According to the stories told by my elders, I was always seen singing and drawing above all else. I remember that when I was seven, my best friend Dani and I put on a performance in a theatre packed with people, and I have a vague memory of us bringing the audience to their feet. The sense of satisfaction I felt was so great that I decided to dedicate my life to music.
A esa misma edad comencé a asistir a clases particulares para iniciar mi formación y, a los nueve, reforcé mi amor hacia el dibujo y empecé a dedicarme al dibujo manga gracias a la influencia de mi hermano mayor, que es fan del manga y el anime tanto como yo. Antes de cumplir los diez años, comencé a estudiar música en una escuela para convertirme en una profesional, y con el paso de los años fui perfeccionando mis técnicas tanto musicales como de dibujo.
At that same age, I began taking private lessons to start my training, and at nine, my love for drawing grew stronger and I began to focus on manga drawing, thanks to the influence of my older brother, who is just as big a fan of manga and anime as I am. Before I turned ten, I began studying music at a school with the aim of becoming a professional, and over the years I honed both my musical and drawing skills.
En la actualidad soy graduada como profesora, instrumentista individual y de grupo de la especialidad de oboe, tengo conocimientos de piano y flauta, así como unos básicos de guitarra, pero puedo decir que, sin lugar a dudas, el canto es lo que más me apasiona. No fue tarea fácil llegar hasta el final de mis estudios, hubo muchos altibajos, en cierto momento quise dejarlo debido al estrés, e incluso llegué a cuestionar si estudiando artes plásticas pudiera haberme sentido más plena y feliz. Sin embargo no me arrepiento, conocí personas maravillosas con las que forjé amistades de más de 10 años, como Melany, mi primera amiga en la escuela de música, Daniel, Jean Carlos, Liskarla, Dayan, Andy y Nairik, así como profesores y profesionales de la música que me ayudaron en todo mi proceso de formación y crecimiento.
I am now a qualified teacher and a solo and ensemble musician specialising in the oboe; I have some knowledge of the piano and the flute, as well as a basic grasp of the guitar, but I can say without a doubt that singing is what I am most passionate about. It wasn’t easy to see my studies through to the end; there were many ups and downs. At one point, I wanted to give up because of the stress, and I even wondered whether I might have felt more fulfilled and happy had I studied fine art instead. However, I have no regrets; I met wonderful people with whom I have forged friendships lasting over 10 years, such as Melany, my first friend at music school, Daniel, Jean Carlos, Liskarla, Dayan, Andy and Nairik, as well as teachers and music professionals who helped me throughout my training and development.
A pesar de haber estudiado una carrera que va altamente ligada al público, me considero una persona bastante introvertida. Por eso, no fue hasta finales de la secundaria que comencé a tener confianza en mi misma como para bailar un poco en público, gracias a mi gusto por el K-pop, en especial a la música de BTS. Y ya que hablamos de música, mis gustos musicales son bastante amplios, escucho gran variedad de géneros como el Kpop, el pop, el reggae, la música clásica, un poco de jazz, aunque mis géneros de preferencia son el rock (alternativo y metal) y la música electrónica (techno en todas sus formas, dubstep, riddim, y techhouse por preferencia). Gracias a esto, suelo frecuentar conciertos, presentaciones de ballet y ópera, fiestas de electrónica y demás, cosa que disfruto muchísimo.
Although I studied a subject that’s closely linked to the public, I consider myself quite an introvert. That’s why it wasn’t until the end of secondary school that I began to feel confident enough to dance a little in public, thanks to my love of K-pop, especially BTS’s music. And since we’re on the subject of music, my musical tastes are quite broad; I listen to a wide variety of genres such as K-pop, pop, reggae, classical music and a bit of jazz, although my preferred genres are rock (alternative and metal) and electronic music (techno in all its forms, dubstep, riddim and tech house in particular). Because of this, I often go to concerts, ballet and opera performances, electronic music parties and the like, which I enjoy immensely.
Me considero una apasionada de todo aquello que implique crear algo nuevo, ya sea el arte del origami, la escritura, la fotografía... Siempre he sentido que el mundo es tan amplio y hay tantas cosas para hacer, que quiero poder experimentar todo y cuanto se me presente, y si va ligado al arte, aún mejor.
I consider myself passionate about anything that involves creating something new, whether it’s the art of origami, writing, photography… I’ve always felt that the world is so vast and there are so many things to do that I want to experience everything that comes my way, and if it’s linked to art, so much the better.
Mi mayor fuente de inspiración es la naturaleza, y no porque me dedique horas y horas a pintar paisajes o hablar de ella, sino porque es tan maravilloso verla, que es imposible no llenarse de energía al hacerlo, y si no me crees te invito a hacer lo que yo: quizás un atardecer frente al mar en La Habana alegre tu espíritu tanto como al mío, o montar longboard y sentir el aire rozando tu pelo y tu piel, tal vez tomar un café en el balcón mientras el sol te calienta hasta lo más profundo del alma... Son cosas simplemente deliciosas que, sin lugar a dudas, merecen ser capturadas en fotos y guardadas en el corazón, para nunca olvidarlas.
My greatest source of inspiration is nature, and not because I spend hours and hours painting landscapes or talking about it, but because it is so wonderful to look at that it is impossible not to feel energised by it, and if you don’t believe me, I invite you to do what I do: perhaps a sunset by the sea in Havana will lift your spirits as much as it does mine, or riding a longboard and feeling the air brush against your hair and skin, or perhaps having a coffee on the balcony whilst the sun warms you to the very depths of your soul... These are simply delightful things that, without a doubt, deserve to be captured in photos and kept in the heart, so as never to forget them.
Quizás con todo lo que he contado sobre mi pensarás que soy una persona que va por la vida libre y a su aire, pero no es siempre así. También puedo ser muy estricta, y tener un carácter algo explosivo, y si no me crees, tengo a mi novio Lázaro como testigo, el cual merece el mayor premio a la paciencia y sobre todo a la perseverancia. El es quien me escucha en mis momentos más oscuros y me ayuda a no ser tan dura conmigo misma, quien me calma y me hace reír en los momentos difíciles. Juntos hacemos buen equipo pues nos complementamos en prácticamente todo, y no cabe duda de que soy feliz a su lado.
With everything I’ve told you about myself, you might think I’m someone who goes through life freely and doing her own thing, but that’s not always the case. I can also be very strict, and I have a rather explosive temper; and if you don’t believe me, my boyfriend Lázaro can vouch for that – he deserves the highest award for patience and, above all, perseverance. He’s the one who listens to me in my darkest moments and helps me not to be so hard on myself; he’s the one who calms me down and makes me laugh when things get tough. Together we make a great team because we complement each other in practically everything, and there’s no doubt that I’m happy by his side.
Y luego está Duman, nuestro hijo gatuno, el cual adoptamos y es otro de los tantos motivos que nos unen, un gato sumamente cariñoso, peludo, tranquilo y con un insaciable apetito.
And then there’s Duman, our feline son, whom we adopted and who is yet another of the many things that bring us together—an extremely affectionate, furry, calm cat with an insatiable appetite.
Podría pasar horas y horas hablando sobre mí. Hay muchas cosas que aun no he contado, pero será en otro momento, pues como diría mi madre, hay más tiempo que vida. I could spend hours and hours talking about myself. There are lots of things I haven’t told you yet, but I’ll save those for another time, because, as my mum would say, there’s more time than there is life.
