"Introvert Talks" is meant to be a new initiative or theme, where I myself as an introvert, just talk about reflections and thoughts about my life, or maybe share more personal stuff. :)
This is my weekly post under this "Introvert Talks" theme and let's see where it takes me and us.
My biggest problem is not that I think too much. It's that I actually enjoy it.
In the recent years, I realised I am an overthinker. Literally, I think a lot, of course, not without purpose as well. I just take comfort in gathering as much information as possible, or get as many views as I can, before weighing the pros and cons of each decision, and then make the final call on how to proceed. As with all different personality traits, there's the good side and the bad side. I would like to think I am being careful, or as some people described me, meticulous. Over time, I have been through the various stages of this discovery, from awareness, to managing it, to eventually acceptance and learning how to live with it.
However, I feel that the "complication" comes when I am also a data or stats freak. Since young, I have always enjoyed playing with numbers, or studying mathematics and statistics. All along, I have always seen it as one of my strengths, being very comfortable with numbers, and stuff like budgeting or looking at markets were pretty easy to pick up and learn.
But when you combine both of these traits, an overthinking stats freak can be quite a scary combination. These days, I have a little more time, and I find myself doing a lot of projections in my head, like:
- how long my savings can last
- how will my investment fare if markets follow the 8 to 10% per annum long term return, or what if I use a more conservative 4 to 5% per annum return
- how should my asset allocation change after 10 years, 20 years, to account for the small time horizon
- etc etc
Of course not everything is finance related, though it's a big part when projections are involved.
It's fun going down this rabbit hole, but at the end of the day, it can get mentally exhausting as well. Not just the tracking part, but also the analysis of the data. And it's also interesting that my mind decides to use the newly found free pockets of time to engage in such useful yet not very productive activity.
So I am curious, what do people keep their brains busy with? Do people also think so far when it goes to their future, their finances, or other stuff in their life? Or do people focus more on the present, enjoying the moment, or just take one day at a time? I guess there's no right or wrong, as long as we are doing what makes us happy. Let me know!
So that's all I have! Ending off with a photo of a cheesecake that I had today! Random story, it was actually a sample to taste and I was quite shocked that the slice is the sample. Definitely made my day!
