The Scarlet Tanager lives in the forests of Eastern America. The bright red birds prefer large tracts undisturbed evergreens and deciduous forests. During migration the birds will visit backyards, scrubland and forests berry bushes and fruit trees.
Migration happens twice a year in the fall the birds fly across the Gulf of Mexico to South America to winter over and in the spring they fly back to Eastern America to breed and raise their chicks. When Scarlet Tanagers migrate, they fly at night.
Preferred food is any kind of edible berry like, blackberries, raspberries, huckleberries, juneberries, serviceberries, mulberries, strawberries, and chokeberries.
