Szewińska was 72 years old. She was the vice-president of the Polish Olympic Committee. This is the best athlete in the history of Polish sport. She won seven medals of the Olympic Games (three gold, two silver and two bronze).
In addition, she won ten medals in the European Championship and improved the world records tenfold. She won gold medals in the 100, 200, 400 meters, and in the long jump she won silver at the Games in Tokyo in 1964.
