군함도 [端島·하시마] 의 진실
군함도는 일본 나가사키 현 나가사키 항에서 남서쪽으로 약 18km 떨어진 곳에 있는 섬이다. 섬의 모양이 일본의 해상군함 ‘도사’를 닮아 ‘군함도(軍艦島)’라고 불리며 일본어로는 ‘하시마(端島)’라고 한다. 19세기 후반 미쓰비시 그룹이 석탄을 채굴하기 위해 이곳을 개발, 탄광 사업을 실시하며 큰 수익을 올렸다. 1950~60년대 일본 석탄 업계가 침체되어 1974년 폐광된 후 무인도로 남아 있다.
대일항쟁기 강제 동원 피해 조사 및 국외 강제 동원 희생자 등 지원위원회의 <사망 기록을 통해 본 하시마(端島) 탄광 강제 동원 조선인 사망자 피해 실태 기초 조사>(2012)에 따르면 1943년에서 1945년 사이 약 500~800여 명의 조선인이 이곳에 징용되어 강제 노동한 것으로 추정된다.

이러한 군함도는 2015년 근대산업시설로 인정되어 세계문화유산 유네스코에 등재 되었다.
여기서 역사적인 이야기는 논하지 않기로 하겠다. 단지 우리가 알아야 할 역사이기에
나 역시 알아야 할 역사이기에 다시한번 생각해 본다.
