This question is one I saw while reading young-boss-karin@young-boss-karin post, this got me thinking. What’s my biggest money flex? 🤔 biggest money flex varies based on your perspective. When I was very young, like in my teenage years, I used to consider my biggest money flex to be the ability to buy the latest gadgets and video games. I used to be like, “when I grow up to be an adult, I will buy all the video games and buy the latest iPhone”. This was my mentality, I used to consider 100,000 Naira($195) to be a huge amount of money.

But while growing up and started becoming responsible for my finances, my orientation changed. I started seeing money flex from a different perspective. Let’s see, paying your bills without owing a dime, is what I consider my biggest flex. For four years I graduated from college and got cut off from getting pocket money from my dad, I have successfully paid my bills for four years without owing a dime. You know the feeling of being ever ready for any bill being thrown at you, most times am usually the first person in my house to pay the bills. I’m talking about the light, water and rental bills.

I don’t consider having gadgets as a big money flex anymore, though I will love to have one to distract me a little and use it during leisure. My next biggest money flex goal is definitely going to be buying myself a house. I have always wanted to own a property of my own. This is because while we hustle and bustle everyday, we can’t help but remember that at the end of the year, we still have to pay rent.

Rent payment is yearly in Nigeria, unlike other places that pay monthly.

I always try to imagine what my life would be or feel like when I have my own house. What will I do with all those extra income, because currently, my brain is used to always putting some percentage of my earning aside for rent.

One thing I have come to understand is that humans will always look for a reason to spend money. For instance, I finished paying my bills for the week, I had extra change and all of a sudden I started thinking of other things I could do with the money. That’s when you start remembering that people asked you for money few weeks ago, and you feel like “oh!! I think this is time to give them that money I promised to give them”, or you start thinking of going to that cloth store to look for anything you can spend money on.

I think I accepted my faith that am getting old when I started getting excited that I have my bills sorted out for the week, month and I have extra to buy coins. I’m turning into an old man 😭.
