Beijing always has a lot of surprises for you.
Last winter, there wasn't any snow in Beijing. People here waited for a long time and still there was no sign of snow. It snowed everywhere in China, even in far south, but not in the capital. And people were really frustrated because without snow there was something lacking in winter. Besides, there is a saying, a good snow brings about a great harvest.
Then the real interesting happened. In March, when it was getting warmer day by day, it suddenly snowed. Little as it was, it was better than nothing and people were overjoyed. More surprise awaited in April. Early this week, it was very warm indeed. Some people even wore their T-shirts in the streets. Then the day before yesterday the temperature dropped by 10 degrees Celsius and it rained in the afternoon. Yesterday it even snowed and it was a medium to heavy snow. What a joy it brought. Though most of the snow thawed upon touching the ground, it still quite a sight to see them falling.
Snow in April in Beijing! How marvelous. It hadn't happened in over 30 years. And I never recall snow in April, when it should be quite warm. After the snow, we can leave winter behind and embrace summer because spring is quite short in this city.
Now we can count on a great harvest year!
