A few days ago, I was going through some old photos from Sarban Hills in Abbottabad, and honestly, they made me stop for a moment. The mountains covered with a light blanket of snow, the quiet atmosphere, and the fresh air brought back memories that still feel alive.
Sometimes we don't realize the beauty around us until we look at old pictures and compare them with what is happening in the world today.
Sarban Hills have always been special for the people of Abbottabad. The place is not only good for hiking, but it also gives a feeling of peace that is becoming rare in modern life. Standing on those rocky heights, looking at the valleys below, a person feels small in front of nature, and maybe that is a good thing.
The snow in these pictures was not very heavy, but it was enough to transform the entire landscape. The dark rocks, green trees, and white snow created a beautiful contrast. The winter sun was shining softly, and the cold breeze made the whole experience unforgettable.
Nowadays, when I read international news, I feel even more grateful for moments like these.
Many European countries are experiencing extremely high temperatures this year. Heatwaves have become stronger, and sadly, reports mention that many people have lost their lives because of the intense heat. Daily routines have been affected, forests have suffered, and people are being advised to stay indoors during the hottest hours.
Climate change is no longer something that belongs only to scientific discussions. Ordinary people can feel its impact in their daily lives.
Of course, South Asia also faces its own environmental challenges. We have long summers, heavy rains, floods, and changing weather patterns. But when I compare the current situation, I still feel that many parts of our region continue to offer natural diversity that should be appreciated and protected.
In northern Pakistan, a person can experience completely different climates within a few hours of travel. One day you are in the plains under strong sunshine, and the next day you are standing on a snowy mountain ridge, breathing cool air and enjoying silence.
That is a blessing which we often take for granted.
Places like Sarban remind us that nature is not only about tourism or photography. It is also about balance. The forests, mountains, and wildlife around us play an important role in keeping our environment healthy. If we fail to protect them, future generations may only know these scenes through old photographs.
I still remember the feeling of sitting on the rocks, looking at the endless mountain ranges disappearing into the horizon. There was no noise, no rush, and no pressure. For a short time, the world felt simple again.
Perhaps that is what people everywhere are searching for today.
While many regions struggle with extreme temperatures and environmental uncertainty, these peaceful hills of Abbottabad quietly remind us to value what we have. The beauty of winter, the gift of fresh air, and the presence of untouched nature are treasures that deserve respect.
The world is changing, and maybe that is exactly why we should spend more time appreciating places like Sarban Hills—before such moments become rarer than they already are.
