Who is the ideal person for your list? What is the best way to attract that person? Do you know the ideal person for your list?
Step 1
You need to create an avatar of your perfect subscriber/buyer. This is fairly easy to do and doesn't take long. Sit down and describe that perfect person. Here are a few things to consider.
- Male/female
- Single/married
- Age
- Kids/no kids
- Income range
The more detailed you are about your perfect person the better. You can always fine-tune your description as you learn more about your subscribers/buyers.
Step 2
Create a swipe file. A swipe file is a place where you can save
- Email subjects that got your attention
- Splash pages you liked
- Content ideas you have
- Emails that made you click
- Anything that made you pause and pay attention
A swipe file is nothing fancy. I keep calling it a file but it may be a folder with multiple files, one for each type of information.
The reason you want this collection of information is because
If it caught your attention, it will probably catch the attention of someone you want on your list. You think alike!
This is an ongoing process. You might add to this file every day.
Step 3
Whenever you write an email, write it to your avatar. Your avatar is your best friend and deserves a personal email from you. Write the email as if you were having a one-on-one conversation.
When you design splash pages, design them for your avatar. You want a splash page that your avatar would say. "That is interesting. I need to check it out."
Use your swipe file for examples of what attracted you. You want to attract people with similar likes and dislikes. These are the people that you can relate to the easiest. They are more likely to stay with you and interact with you. Your best possible subscriber/buyer
