I had no power most of yesterday. I lost power about 8 am and didn't get it back until sometime after 10 pm. I did get my Larry the Postman tasks done before I lost power except for ListNerds, but that was about all I got done. Today is Easter which mandated more family time than is usual. It is now 4:30 pm and I am about where I should have been yesterday at about 1 pm. What can you do, life happens and I don't get much done without electricity.
Today I want to write about
The psychology of email
I believe email is the best method of marketing available to the average affiliate marketer. It has a much higher rate of return than you will ever achieve on a traffic exchange. But to be most effective you need to have a strategy.
You can't expect a single email to get you sales or signups. Multiple contacts are required to generate action. The number of contacts I see most often is 7. I have seen it as high as 20. Let's say it is 7.
You can't send the same email 7 times. That's the same as sending just 1. You need 7 emails that lead the reader to your desired goal. Emails that will take the reader from the introduction to your goal.
There are some human traits that you can use to your advantage to create the most effective email series.
Curiousity
This is a great human trait to use to build interest. If you can generate curiosity about your goal, people will keep opening your emails to learn more.
"Herd" Mentality
As much as we might like to think that we are totally independent and an individual, most of us tend to follow the crowd. One way to use this in your emails is to ask people questions like, "Is this something you would be interested in? Please let me know". In the next email, you can tell how many people were interested.
Follow Those They Trust
How many times have I mentioned people follow those that they Know, Like, and Trust? If you have built that trust use it in your emails. Your first email in particular should work on building trust.
Missing Out
We all hate to miss out on something of interest. If you use your early emails to build trust, create curiosity, and show how many are interested, you will create the feeling that I don't want to miss that.
Using these human traits in a series of emails to promote your product, will greatly increase your success.
If you are interested in learning more about the psychology of sales, I would highly recommend this book
