Let's go for some mystery this week.

Day 1998: 5 Minute Freewrite: Wednesday - Prompt: wood doll

The gashes were back again, but this time they seemed angrier. It had been several weeks since she noticed these bloody trails appear on her skin-- first her arms, sometimes her back, most time her legs. They started as scratches at first, which she shrugged off to her working closely with her farm animals, but these days it was really starting to worry her.

The only saving grace she could find in her personal escalating torment was her neighbor's convenient gifts. She never did get the chance to ask him where it was he always acquired those ointments--- they seem to do wonders for her woes. Perhaps today she'd have the time after she dropped these bottles of fresh milk from her farm.

Not minding the shavings of wood drifting in the air from her neighbor's carpentry work, she headed to knock on his door. When no response came, she tried to peek past the curtains by the front window, instantly spotting a silhouette near the back of the house. Thinking it wise to deliver the bottles of fresh milk where he was, instead of leaving it here on the porch, she went around back only to stop dead in her tracks.

There past the house's back door where she thought the kitchen was situated, stood a lone wood doll that uncannily resembled her, but what really made chills down her nape were the obvious cuts made on the wood's "arms" and "legs"-- each looking angrier than the last.

Then she heard the crunch of dried leaves under heavy footsteps.
