When the government failed to carry out the civic duty to its citizens in terms of job creation, provision of welfare to citizens, provision of security for the safety of lives and properties and the well-being of the populace are not concerned that led to crime and other unthinkable things.

The above statements remind me of a story of a young man who graduated from the University of Texas in Agbungbu State with first-class division. He was roaming the street for years and his colleagues were disturbing the peace of the state due to the inability to get white-collar jobs (that is the level of unemployment was higher than normal in the country).

Some young people started extortion both in the community and the country at large and the government could not do anything to curb the crime. Charles was thinking about how he would survive, he had become of age and his family and friends were disturbing him that he should do something to get married but there is no means of income to take care of Lady and unborn children. As we know the economy was not favourable to everyone, many people were doing whatever they could do to bring food to the table.

One day, Charles summoned the courage to engage himself in a farming job and get married. At least he would be able to feed his wife from the farm output and if God said that he would become somebody in life through it, it is fine. If otherwise, all is well.

When it was time to prepare for the season, Charles confided in the village's head to solicit Acres of land to be used for farming. "The village head said Charles, my son, you are a graduate of a reputable University. why can't you leave this dirty job for those that didn't go to school?"

Charles said, "ever since I finished school I didn't get a job and time is not on my side. When the government refused to create jobs for the unemployed graduate and I can not do what others are doing for the survival of day to day living by being involved in extortion and cybercrime which can be tarnished my image in life but I want to use my hands to do something meaningful through farm work if God will open door of blessing from there."

"The village head exclaimed! Okay, don't let me discourage you. I will instruct one of my chiefs to show you idle land which is good for farming, go and use it anywhere. I would bless you and the gods of this land will be with you."

That was how Charles started clearing the land in April and in May he started planting seeds, he devoted his time to it for the positive yield. "His friends and relatives started making a gesture toward him that how much would you earn on the farm work? You are just wasting your precious time on something that will not be fruitful but Charles didn't look at them, he remained focused on his farm work." Initially, things didn't work out for him but he was still pushing until something happened and that year God favoured him because there was a famine in the country and neighbouring countries had relented on farming, and he was able to cultivate the hectares of land with different crops in terms of cassava, maize, yam, rice and beans and the likes.

During the famine, the government of the country assigned government officials that will look for food so that the populace will not die of hunger. Meanwhile, Charles had stored and preserved food that he could not get buyers to buy in the previous years and he was able to feed his country and neighbouring countries, from there he started dining with the affluent people in the society.

However, "those people who could not endure the pain that chose a shortcut way to getting rich overnight had been apprehended by a security agent and they faced the consequences of their actions because they ended up in jail but everyone started making Charles a reference point for young ones who want to follow footsteps of those in jail. Look at Charles, despite having graduated from a reputable university with first class division and hustling to get white-collar jobs, he was able to find something meaningful to do to keep himself busy. Now, if it was not for him, many people might have died of hunger but thank God for his life. When he started the farm business we discouraged him then not knowing he would be the one that would save us from famines."

Charles has become a man through his efforts and the government decided to appoint him as a minister of agriculture.
Therefore, diligence pays more than anything. This is the Month of May when people are planting seeds, so don't be left out. You can also make a difference today, stop looking for what is not missing again and engage yourself in farming. God will bless the work of your hands when you are faithful to it.
