Music for Dance Sport - Standard Ballroom (QuickStep)!

Alright, this is the last of the 4 part series of dance sport. Today, we will talk about quickstep. Quick Step is literally my favourite. It is fast, damn bloody fast. Last post we talked about Viennese Waltz which is double the speed of Waltz, but it is nothing compared to QuickStep, therefore the name Quick Step.

Now QuickStep is really really quick, needless to say. And although it is super jovial and all, it requires a hell lot of focus to stay balanced!

Evidently as you can see, I can't recall if it is the third or the fourth couple, it is super easy to lose your balance and slip and fall. I mean, I cannot blame them, they are literally jumping at such high pace and not to mention the ladies are jumping backwards and in heels!

Origin

Now, the QuickStep was first created in New York and was an amalgamation of both the slower foxtrot as well as the Charleston dance. I would say, a lot from the Charleston! In case you are unsure, here is a clip of the Charleston dance.

As well, the Foxtrot, a pretty chill and slow dance!

This is like the insane pace of the Charleston, meshed up with the grace and elegance of Foxtrot to produce the QuickStep, monster of high speed elegance!

Intense Mood!

It is literally impossible to stay upset and down when doing the QuickStep. The music is so jovial, the pace is so high, it brings about an innate sense of happiness when doing QuickStep, perhaps that is why I love it so much. The upbeat of the song, the quick movements, the hopping and jumping, all hints towards the jovial nature of this dance.

Look at all the hops and jumps! When young, you literally skip along when you are happy. This dance really depicts that!

Cardio - Demands

So how intense is QuickStep, jumping and hopping at such high pace and literally maintaining an insanely stellar frame throughout. Google shows that an hour of Quickstep burns 458 calories. To put things into perspective, google says that an average of 60 calories are burnt for every km of run. So if you were to compare, an hour of QuickStep is equivalent to approximately a 7km run! 7 freaking KM! This, is just how demanding dances are for those who don't dance! Haha.

I recall in the past, we are supposed to stay picture perfect the moment we hit the dance floor. We are only allowed to break our form after we exit the corners of the dance floor. It is very common for us to walk out of the dance floor gracefully after the song ends. And the moment we step foot outside the dance floor, literally that 1 step out, we will crash to the floor full of cramps. Ladies especially, cause I think the fact that they are wearing heels to dance really put in additional strain on them.

Question of the day

Tell me a song that makes you jovial and happy! (Please, do not copy the answers from others)
