Hello everyone, it's time for another Modern Ranked match in Splinterlands. After playing quite a lot of Frontier Ranked battles recently, I am still enjoying coming back to Modern and trying different combinations.
This time, I got a battle with only 26 Mana, so there wasn't much room to build a huge team. The interesting part was the Outsider modifier, which allowed me to summon 1 Wild unit. With such a low Mana cap, I had to be careful with every card I selected.
The battle ended after only 4 rounds and thankfully my team managed to secure another VICTORY.
Mana: 26
Modifier: Outsider (You can summon 1 Wild unit)
Elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Life, Death and Dragon
With only 26 Mana available, I decided to go with my Death team again. Thalgrimore is a great summoner and I am loving it, his abilities helps to reduce the health of all enemy units by 1 which is my favourite part, specially if the enemy has low-health cards then it's beneficial.
I started the match making and saw I found a match but the mana was low, it means I won't be able to see full line up of Thalgrimore. I had to focus on cards that could give me enough damage and survive long enough to finish the battle.
Here was my lineup:
Summoner
Thalgrimor - All enemy units have -1 Health (Level 1)
1st Position – Nim Guard Captain (Level 1)
2nd Position – Sorrow Harvester (Level 1)
3rd Position – Lenore Nevermore (Level 1)
I placed Nim Guard Captain in the first position because he has shield and good health. Also, his void ability is helpful against magic-heavy teams.
After him, I placed Sorrow Harvester. I love to use her in the second row when it's low mana also it has Weaken ability. It reduces the maximum health of all enemy units by 1, which worked nicely together with Thalgrimor's ability. So, my enemy team were already starting the battle with reduced health.
In the third place, I had Lenore Nevermore because I have never used her before so I thought maybe I should give her the chance. Anyway, she has the Snipe ability which allows her to target non-melee attackers behind the enemy's first position. With only three monsters in my lineup, I wanted to make sure I still had one ranged damage coming from the back.
I knew this was a risky lineup because I had fewer cards than my enemy but it was very shocking to see his long line up, I couldn't imagine someone using so many cards with only 26 Mana, so I had to make the most of what I could afford.
When I saw my enemy, VOIDSPREN, that they had managed to bring a much larger lineup than mine. Their team included Dolar Darflak, Cavewise Wayfinder, Fenmoor Haunt, Gobalano Soldier, Silverleaf Warlock, Nimbledook Scout, and Ahna-Chei Botanist.
As I said, I was shocked seeing seven enemy cards against my three cards. The battle did look a little scary. 😅 But I knew that having more cards doesn't always mean having the better team.
The Outsider modifier also made this battle a little different because one Wild unit could be summoned. My enemy used this opportunity to bring a large lineup with several different abilities.
The battle started and both teams immediately began attacking. My main hope was that Nim Guard Captain could survive in the frontline while Sorrow Harvester and Lenore Nevermore continued doing damage from behind.
Nim Guard Captain's Void was particularly useful because it helped him take less damage from magic attacks. At the same time, Thalgrimor and Sorrow Harvester were reducing the enemy team's health, making it easier for my attacks to finish them off.
Lenore Nevermore was also useful from the back because her Snipe ability allowed her to attack targets behind the frontline instead of simply focusing on the first enemy card.
The battle continued for a short time and my enemy's large team slowly started losing members. I had a smile on my face because I only had three cards, but my team were doing very well.
The battle ended just in 4 rounds.
I was honestly happy with this result because I was facing seven enemy cards with only three monsters of my own. The low Mana cap made team selection very important and I think my Death lineup did a pretty good job.
After the victory, my rating increased by +20, taking me to 340 rating in Bronze III. I also earned +82 Glint from the battle.
After the battle, I also received a nice reward from the Daily Streak.
This time I got:
+5 Frontier Energy and +2,500 Bonus Sparks from reaching Tier II!
The extra Frontier Energy is useful because I have been playing Frontier Ranked quite often so I can definitely make use of it. Reaching Tier II and receiving 2,500 Bonus Sparks was also a nice little surprise.
I always like these extra rewards because even when a battle itself doesn't give anything spectacular, these bonuses still make the overall progress feel worthwhile.
This was another quick but enjoyable Modern Ranked battle. With only 26 Mana, I did not have many options.
I was worried in the beginning when I saw my enemy had seven cards while I had only three but the battle showed once again that the number of cards isn't everything. My Death team managed to survive and take the victory just in 4 rounds.
Thank you all for taking the time to read my battle report!
