Due to busyness and workload, I was away from playing Splinterlands for quite some time. Due to continuous work, I got a bit bored or tired with the game. Due to which I did not play any matches for a few days. However, today, having some free time, I thought I would come back to the game and play a few battles to hone my strategies.
Today, I will share with you my experience and winning strategy of a small mana battle. There was only 19 mana limit in this match, but due to the right card selection and positioning, I was able to win very easily. I hope you will like this strategy of mine too.
Talking about the details of the match, it was a Gold 3 tier Modern Ranked match. The opponent was a player named PON9. Our total mana limit for this fight was only 19, which is very low. In a low mana match, the role of each card becomes much more important, because there is no chance of taking any unnecessary cards.
There were two special rulesets or rules in effect for the match. The first was the Explosive Weaponry or Blast ruleset. This rule meant that each attack dealt additional damage to the card next to it in addition to the main target. The second rule was Equal Opportunity, which allowed any card to directly attack the enemy card with the lowest health, regardless of its position in the line.
For this 19 mana fight, I chose the Earth element summoner Kaelia Silverleaf. This 4 mana cost summoner brought some nice benefits to my cards. First, it reduced the magic power of all enemy magic attacking units by 1. In low mana matches, players often use powerful but low mana magic cards, so this defensive debuff was very effective.
Second, Kaelia has the Bloodline Dominion ability, which allows cards of the Elf type to be summoned from any element and they gain a special ability called Execute. This ability does this by making another additional attack if the target has 2 or less health after a successful attack.
Now let's look at the card lineup and order of their placement. I built my team with just 3 cards, which was very balanced for 19 mana.
In the first position, I placed a Nome card called Scrag the No. Its mana cost was 8. With its health of 8 and armor of 3, it was able to create a strong defense in the first line. Its attack power was 3 melee and its speed was 3.
The biggest thing is its Poison Burst ability. When this card is defeated, the attacker is 100% certain to be poisoned, which reduces health by 2 at the beginning of each round. Such a strong frontline was very important in a match with the Blast and Opportunity ruleset.
In the second position, I placed a 4 mana Mundane Beast card called Calamity. The card has 3 magic attacks, 4 speed, and 9 health. Its shapeshift ability helps it take advantage of any bloodline.
In addition, its Electrophide ability deals 1 damage to all allied units from round 2, but its 3 magic attacks help it quickly finish off the opponent's low health cards. Due to its high health, it can easily withstand blast damage.
In the third or last position, I used a 3-mana elf card called Tae Lorswift. It is a great support card in low mana matches. Due to its inspire ability, all units on my team's melee units increase their attack power by 1, which makes my front-line Scrag the No's attack even stronger.
In addition, its reach and opportunity abilities allow it to conduct attacks very effectively from the last line. Being under Kylia Summoner, it gains additional effectiveness.
On the other hand, the opponent PON9 chose Mega Therion as his summoner, which gives +1 health to his cards. In the first position, he also used Scrag the No. 1, like me. However, the rest of his cards could not withstand the magic attack reduction debuff of my Kylia Summoner and the high damage of Calamity.
From the first round after the match started, my card combinations were excellent. Scrag the No. 1 broke the opponent's defense with the Inspire bonus given by Tae Loreswift. Calamity's powerful 3 magic attack quickly disabled the opponent's weak cards with blast damage.
After 3 short but intense rounds, all the opponent's cards fell and I took a great victory in the Gold 3 League. With this victory, my rating increased by 20 to 2000 and I received 233 Glint and 1.075 SPS as a reward.
From this battle, I realized again that in Splinterlands, winning is not guaranteed by having high-mana cards or expensive cards. In low-mana matches, the real key to victory is choosing the right opponent, using the ruleset correctly, and using the synergy between the cards.
Such a great win after a busy schedule has really renewed my interest in gaming. I hope you enjoy my battle experience and I can share some new strategies and match experiences with you in the future.
