Hello everyone, how are you all? It's weekends so finally I had some free time. Today, I would like to talk about a sensitive issue which we all have faced or seen around us. We see famous people or Influencer's on the internet giving advices as they are an expert. In reality, they don't have any bare minimum knowledge about the subject. They are only reading the scripts which was given to them by their sponsors. But not all of the influencer's are doing the same thing, some really do have knowledge and want to help their followers. A person who has millions of followers, there's no Guaranty that they are not lying or giving false informations. Even if they speak with great confidence about beauty, health, fitness or other serious topics. But we don't know if they are qualified for it or not.
From my personal experience I will share my side of story. I gew up in Bangladesh and I have seen how much people care about fairness. People are very obsessed with it. People here think that fair skin is more beautiful or desirable. I have darker skin myself and when I was younger, even when I got older I couldn't accept myself. I hated myself for not being fair like others. I always wanted to become fairer and change the way I looked. Imagine, if that time I had access to today’s social media influencers then I would have listened to them even more. I have used many remedies before in the past but I never had any serious irritation or other negative reaction. The things I tried did not really change anything either. In the end, I stopped doing it.
After becoming a family man, I learned to love myself instead of constantly trying to change myself for other people. In Bangladesh, most of the people still struggle with this, specially girls and women who are constantly exposed to beauty content online. When they see their favourite influencers promoting fairness creams or any other products by saying they can make people look beautiful. Last time, there was someone who was making people buy tablets which could make them fair and lose weight at the same time. People ended up buying it and many fell sick. I won't blame the consumers because they have no idea that some of these products are sponsored. The Influencer's get paid by the company for their recommendation. So, their advices is not based on what is actually good for us.
This shows that trusting someone blindly is harmful for us. If someone looks successful on social media then we should verify about their qualifications. But their follower count does not make them right or qualified. Popularity has nothing to do with it. Their knowledge can never be the same as the professionals. The same thing applies to health. When we have a real health issue we should contact a qualified medical professional instead of trying random treatments we saw on social media. We could die or get serious illness for consuming something we are not supposed to. I believe we should stop following Influencer's for health or any beauty tips. We can learn many things through the internet, but we should always question who is giving the advice and why they are giving it. We can know how popular is someone by seeing their follower count, but it cannot tell us how qualified they are.
