There some cinematic fans that don't appreciate an animated movie. Well, I'm not one of them; and even though I had my reservations about watching Coco a movie clearly marketed for children, I found myself watching it this weekend.
Graphics:
We have gotten to a point in which animated graphic are mostly well executed and produce no matter the film. all big studies, however, have already defined and perfected their own looks and in Coco, it is clear that Pixar is behind it. Coco has a bubbly feeling to it but not present as in inside-out. Even though the movie does a great job with not whitewashing characters that are representing Mexicans, there was a lack of pigmentation within the main family. They all kinda look the same shade if I must say, but I might be I'm cherry-picking.
Reaction
I found the topic of the movie incredible deep and well thought out for a movie targeted to kids, it explores some difficult topics such as death and murder. While the movie makes light of these hard situations, it does not ridicule the fact that death is troublesome to deal with. During the whole movie, you feel a sense of the importance of family connections and how sometimes we dismiss such in order to pursue our dreams when there is no need to. There are surprise twists and connections that you only get to understand as the plot develops. The movie has a beautiful and emotional resolution that will make the bravest let out a tear.
