✔️The black kite (Milvus migrans)
Despite the fact that these birds prefer to feed on carrion, sometimes they are forced to "pull themselves together" and become real hunters, as befits birds of prey.
Flying over the yards, their gaze is often riveted to the garbage dumps in the yard. They fly in circles and consider whether there is something edible for them, some leftovers, bones, tripe.
But still, the bulk of the kites live in the wild. In the forests, these birds look out for small rodents, amphibians, and naturally will not give up dead birds and nestlings.
And on water bodies, such as rivers, lakes, they fishing.
Here in this photo this predator managed to catch a fish. See, it sticks out in his beak.
We have a lot of kites on the big city river that flows along the entire city. They fly over the river and look for prey.
But they are not as skillful and dexterous at fishing as gulls, terns, or kingfishers. They do not dive under water for fish, they literally pull fish from the surface of the water.
And then, if the hunt is successful, they eat right in flight, holding the food in their paws.
