The most common and widespread species of woodpecker, which can be found always and everywhere, in any forests and groves. These photos show a female; sexual dimorphism is expressed in the presence or absence of a red spot on the back of the head.
The best time to observe them is spring and fall, as the rest of the year they are either active in the treetops or secretive, tending to their young.
