Hello to all my friends here on Hive Naija, hope the week has been going smoothly. This week's prompt hit me differently because immediately I saw the topic, it reminded me of the recent shopping I had which later after getting all the unplanned items I regretted, after checking all I spent. Things are very expensive these days and without thinking twice, I spent #30,000 ($30) on things I know I didn't need then. A few weeks ago, I was swiping through some of my contacts WhatsApp statuses and I saw a friend who happened to be a vendor.
She is into clothing and immediately I saw the post of the ladies' crop tops and jeans my eyes and heart went for it without thinking of the consequences if I should use the money on me to buy it. I picked the ones I loved, asked for the prices, and paid her half of the payment because online shopping can go wrong if not being careful. "It's been a while since I had a clothing shopping, this isn't bad". I said to myself, I ordered clothes worth #20,000 ($20) in one sitting, I was laughing at myself.
After paying for the first half, I had mixed feelings about the decision I just made, but I insisted on getting those clothes because she might not have them with her again the next time I asked. Two days later, my orders were delivered, and I balanced up my payment. Immediately I paid the last half of the money, and reality set in for me, I knew I would regret the actions I took. "#20,000 gone like that on few clothes!!!" I lamented while checking them out in my room, my friend was laughing and shouting "Aya Pablo" meaning "Pablo's wife". "Only Pablo's wife can order #20,000 clothes in this season we are in Nigeria" she was teasing me, then I had to ask myself, "Do I need these clothes for now?". At that time when I was having all these thoughts, it was already late because I had paid and my goods had been delivered.
A few days later, I accompanied my friend to a mall to get her toiletries, and you all these big malls and their different sections. I was looking around just to feed my eyes with no intention of buying anything because I was still feeling the pinch of the ones I bought a few days ago. I saw the mall's makeup section and wow!!!, It is colorful. I walked up to it, checked a few items, and admired the beauty in them, I ended up buying a few items like a set of powder, lipstick, and foundation even though I'm not a makeup fan. I prefer going out with my natural face than applying all the filters, it makes me feel uncomfortable but here I was buying things I know I might not use, who does that?
I took the picked items to the counter to pay and when the prices were summed up, it was #10,000 ($10). At that point, I had no problem paying because my mind was bent on buying them. After payment and we stepped out of the mall, I checked my hand and asked my friend, "Who will use these things I bought?", she laughed and replied," I will be helping you don't worry". I knew I had gone wrong again, what was I thinking? I couldn't bring myself to answer the question I had no choice but to live with the regrets of using such an amount to purchase something I might not use. And then the capital spent on it went to waste, I felt bad about it though but I couldn't change that decision as it was like medicine after death.
