Happy weekend to every writer in this community, in response to hiveghana@hiveghana's weekly prompt, I have been having deep thoughts on one of the topics. Making the world a better place, what does this connote, this is a question that everyone should answer, and after that ask yourself again, how can I make the world a better place? What part can I play in the process of making the world a better place? After successfully answering these questions then adequate actions should be taken to make the world a better place.

Taking my country as an example, since the days of my great-grandparents, they were made to know that the country would become a better place but unfortunately, there was no change. Till the days of my parents, they are still believing that my country will become a better place. Since my childhood, I've been hearing this over and over again, changing government every four years but yet no sign of a better country. People pass the blame on the government every day, and the country is deteriorating, no one is ready to be the subject of change and those who try to be righteous and push the change were eliminated along the way. I guess this is what has been happening in the world not in my country alone over the years.

We believe our leaders should be the ones to cause the changes, they should be the driving force whereas the grass root is causing more harm daily. Because of the promises made to us by our leaders before getting into power, we believe they will keep to their promises when they are finally elected but the reverse was the case. Then instead of challenging ourselves individually and being a driving force of change in our little communities, we tend to watch and let it deteriorate claiming we are all going to suffer the consequences. Do we think of those who are vulnerable? Those who cannot fight for themselves? Those innocent souls who are fighting for survival daily? The answer to all these questions is no because selfishness is now the principal determinant of survival in the world today.

Making the world a better place, the change begins with every one of us individually. Starting from our small groups, villages, and towns before reaching the people in the higher position. The damage caused by the grassroots is so much more than the ones caused by the so-called leaders. I once had an encounter where I saw the highest level of corruption which pissed me off and I kept wondering how we got here as a country. This is what is happening in the world at large, I needed a certificate then, and after going through all the necessary processes required of me, the certificate was not released because I was told to pay a certain amount of money to some people which I refused to pay.

I had to fight this for a very long time before it was finally released to me, and then I began to wonder if I had no one who could have possibly helped me out on this, what would I have done? What about those people who had no one in the place of power and also had no money to satisfy the cause of these greedy leaders? And this is at the grassroots, what if it were to be at the federal level then all my efforts would have been in vain. Greediness and selfishness are the root of many evils in the world today and to fight these, it's going to take more than one person. There are times I do wish I could change the world but then I remember it took more than one person to destroy it therefore it's going to take more than one person to repair all the damages.

The change begins with me and you, if I have the power to make the world a better place, I would have to make everyone speak the truth and inculcate the habit of selflessness and good leadership. Treat everyone equally without discrimination, letting go of greed and covetousness. All these are achievable in one accord, bringing everyone together irrespective of tribe or culture will build a strong relationship with everyone and a great alliance will be formed between every nation this way the world will be a peaceful place to live in.
