I personally am a volunteer with TEALS this year and have been enjoying the process. They connect experts in software engineering with schools to teach the students while they also training up the teachers.
TEALS has made a recent push toward remote teaching as a way to access rural schools which do not have a pool of local programmers to draw from for volunteers. They are Northwest-based, but support schools across the country. I could type for hours talking about TEALS, but they have an excellent site so I recommend visiting it and reading up on all TEALS has to offer.
