One of my other hobbies that I have not yet discussed on Steemit is Geocaching.
For those of you who don't know what Geocaching is, do go check at https://www.geocaching.com for all the details. In short, it is a global network of hidden caches connected via a giant online database at the site above. People create accounts at geocaching.com come, find caches near their location which are usually some type of hidden container. Once found, the user signs a log and may trade for an included item. Geocaching can often be done in conjunction with your normal outdoor activities such as hiking and I have found that kids enjoy it as much as the adults. Who doesn't like finding hidden treasures?
For those of you who found that last paragraph rather boring because you already know about Geocaching I'll establish my bona fides by saying I have found 949 caches so far and my username is the same in Geocaching as on Steemit.
Steemit is a great source of connectivity, but if people spend too much time behind a computer screen then their life and their Steemit quality will suffer. Geocaching is a great way to get out of the house, get some exercise and then you can return to your online life refreshed and reinvigorated.
I started off very active in geocaching and peaked at 130 in 2012. Since then my annual cache count has dropped due to life just getting busier, including the addition of small children into the family. I only found 10 all of last year! Now that they have gotten a little older and it is easier for me to wrangle them into a little caching I'm going to give it a go again. I am giving myself two goals. First, I want to beat my yearly total of 130, hence the blog post title. Second, I want to work on my "Finds for Each Day of the Year" grid. Geocaching Statistics provides a gride that has every day of every month on it.
Now I won't be able to complete it this year, but I definitely want to fill in at least 30 more zeros on that chart. So wish me luck. I'll be posting my progress along with any interesting images or stories that I build as I go outside and experience the amazing world out there.
