Happy New Year fellow Steemians! 2017 was an interesting year! Politics was all kinds of crazy for good or bad and I am not sure if anything will ever be quite the same. 2017 was also the year I rediscovered blockchains. I had fiddled with Bitcoins a few years ago and I think I even mined a little bit of coin. If only I had cared enough at the time to track my wallet passphrase... I started reading about blockchains when they started exploding in value. I was impressed by the technology as much as the coins themselves. There is so much potential in the concept of a secure, distributed ledger technology. Bitcoin was only the tip of the spear for this new technology.
For my new year prediction. While I am not as bullish on Steem as say @taskmaster4450, I think Steem is in a good position. I think 2018 will not shepherd in a huge increase in value across the board in cryptocurrency, instead, cryptos will find their niche. There has been a ton of ICO's recently that have promised some type of niche and sold their coin based on this potential, but many of these coins do not have the technical back-end to support their future niche yet. In 2018, these coins will have to realize their potential. Those who make it to the niche first will succeed, others will fail. What makes me so optimistic about Steem is that it has already found it's niche, so I feel it has gotten a head start on many of its competitors. Already having a niche will moderate fluctuations which will moderate both the crazy losses and gains, but lead to more consistent and steady growth. I am excited to see where 2018 takes us!
