The popular if somewhat infamous site, 8Chan, was buried in controversy which resulted in the site being taken down. Hosting providers refused to do business with 8Chan and the site was taken down.
8Chan developers have now turned to blockchain to fight censorship and blacklisting from traditional internet service and hosting providers.
The new site which is called 8Kun will use an open protocol which will be connected to the blockchain. This system, Lockinet, will safeguard the new site from censorship. The network is based on Loki and is based on a fork of the better known Monero cryptocurrency.
The 8Kun experience may set the ground work for safeguarding internet content by utilizing decentralized networks.
I would like to see a concentrated advertising effort on behalf of Steemit focused on educating the public on the benefits of decentralization. Steemit could in essence be the vault for content which may run the risk of being censored and taken down by big media, Youtube and Facebook. Could we promote the idea of backing up your content on Steemit? I would love to hear your thoughts on this idea.
