A few days ago I got my pink banana seeds. This morning I got around to doing the research to plant them and I also took the first step towards planting them. Here is my earlier post on tropical plants for 2018. https://steemit.com/homesteading/@randomstuff/tropical-plants-to-be-raised-in-2018
After doing research I found out that the best way to get these to germinate was to use a nail file and file the seeds until you see the white embryo and then soak in water for 24-48 hours.
The package that the seeds came in said that there were ten seeds in the pack. I counted and there was twenty one seeds instead. Here is what the seeds look like
After filing down the seeds I put them in a plastic container with warm water. For best germination the seeds should be kept at a warmer temperature of around 70-80F.
I let the seeds soak for around 40 hours before putting the seeds into soil. I used a mix of peat moss and compost. Then I watered it down and poked 11 holes about 1/2" deep for my 11 seeds and then I covered them up.
Once all the seeds were planted I sealed the tub inside of a plastic bag for a greenhouse effect since these plants like moisture.
I will do another post once the first one germinates. That may be in several days or a couple of months.
