Early Raspberry Transplanting.

After filling our new raised beds it was time to plant them. Only two of them are complete and one more is under construction. We are planting one in Golden Raspberries, one in strawberries and the other one in figs. Each of these beds is 60' long and 4' wide. Today we are going to be planting the raspberries. Three years ago @mountainmamma and her family gave us about 30 of these plants and now, three years later we have well over a thousand. These things are super easy to grow and they don't need much water. After they were established I think we only watered them once or twice and these were years when we had a seven and eleven week droughts. We have really enjoyed their fruit and they have a really sweet but fragile golden berry. They can also fruit two to three times a year. Unfortunately I have no pictures of any fruit but here is a picture of the dormant patch.

Since this is the best time of the year to transplant these and we had a 60F day today we decided to transplant them. We began by digging them up and removing all of the weeds and grass so that all that was left was bare roots.

After we dug them up we pruned them so that they were around 18" tall.

Here is the first one In the ground. We are not watering this ground since it is very moist and there is rain in the forecast for tomorrow.

After planting half of the bed we were happy with how it was turning out.

Altogether we got 55 raspberries in our new bed. By summertime there will probably be two hundred or more.

We got all 55 raspberry canes out of a 6' by 3' area.
