What if I'm not to be found?
What if I'm just a fading sound?
What if I drift, without a bound,
And leave no mark behind?

What if I'm morning's borrowed gold?
A tale that cannot be told?
A fire that grew too cold?

What if I'm just a star's last trace?
A memory time will erase?
The hollow where a smile was placed?

What if I'm dawn, a final streak?
The word the lips can never speak?
The peace the heart cannot keep.
