The Boat Area (Eng/Esp)

The community of Caigüire is a fishing village par excellence; the beach is always bustling, and the fishermen enjoy their time here—and it’s no wonder: the breeze, the smell of salt, the calm waters, and the beautiful scenery invite you to stay here for hours on end.

In this sense, the beach isn’t just synonymous with fun for the children, teenagers, and adults who swim there—it’s also a source of food and an integral part of the culture and traditions. Fishing has become a way of life that’s felt every day; passion drives these men who have dedicated years to this practice—a legacy passed down from generation to generation.

On the beach, there is an area where the boats rest after long days at sea; there, they wait patiently until it’s time to set sail again. In this space, the fishermen also maintain and decorate their boats, even giving them very creative names.

Each boat has a unique design, accompanied by a name. The fishing community knows one another, and these boats are safe on the shore, so the stars can serve as guardians while restful sleep provides respite for these men, who return to the sea at dawn.

I love walking along the beach, watching the different activities that take place there, which helps me understand what life is like on this side of the city. The ocean always invites contemplation, and I heed that call.

La comunidad de Caigüire es una zona de pescadores por excelencia, en la playa siempre hay movimiento, los hombres de mar disfrutan su estancia en este lugar y no es para menos, la brisa, el olor a salitre, la tranquilidad de las aguas y el hermoso paisaje invitan a permanecer aquí por muchas horas.

En este sentido, la playa no solo es sinónimo de diversión para los niños, adolescentes y adultos que se bañan allí sino que también es fuente de alimento, es parte de la cultura y las tradiciones. La pesca se ha convertido en un estilo de vida que se siente en cada jornada, la pasión acompaña a estos hombres quienes les han dedicado años a esta práctica, herencia que ha pasado de generación en generación.

En la playa existe una zona donde reposan las embarcaciones luego de las largas faenas en el mar, allí esperan pacientes hasta que llegue el momento de volver a zarpar. En este espacio los pescadores también acondicionan y embellecen sus botes, incluso los identifican con nombres muy creativos.

Cada bote tiene un diseño único, el cual va acompañado por un nombre. La comunidad de pescadores se conoce entre sí y esas embarcaciones están seguras en la orilla, de modo que las estrellas pueden ser las guardianas mientras que el sueño reparador da el descanso a estos hombres, quienes de madrugada regresan al mar.

Me encanta caminar por la playa, observar las diferentes actividades que tienen cabida en ese escenario, de modo que logro comprender cómo es la vida de este lado de la ciudad. El mar siempre invita a la contemplación y yo le hago caso a ese llamado.
